Statement of Need

The findings from the 2015 Komen Orange County Community Profile revealed that several areas in our community have the highest needs.

Drawing from the profile, Komen Orange County has identified the following funding priority areas and populations:

Priority Populations listed below in alphabetical order:

-African-American/Black Women
-Asian and Pacific Islander Women
o Specifically Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, South Asian and Vietnamese
-Hispanic/Latina Women
-Women 65 years and older

The Funding Priority Areas are listed below in no particular order:

PRIORITY AREA I
Projects that provide evidence-based, culturally relevant breast cancer education that results in documented age-appropriate breast cancer action (e.g., talk to doctor about breast cancer risk and/or receive a screening mammogram) for priority populations that reside in Orange County.

PRIORITY AREA II
Programs that propose to decrease barriers to care by increasing knowledge, access and utilization of breast cancer early detection services among priority populations in Orange County. Programs MUST clearly demonstrate the provision of direct access and/or utilization of screening and/or diagnostic services.

PRIORITY AREA III
Programs that provide evidence-based support services for breast cancer survivors currently undergoing treatment that lead to improved breast health outcomes among priority populations in Orange County.
