I.S.P.E.A.K and Speakers Bureau | Speaker Requests
Through our I.S.P.E.A.K program we offer dynamic speakers to attend health fairs, community events, and fundraising activities. We also offer trained breast health educators through our Speakers Bureau to provide basic breast health information, discuss the importance of early detection as the key to survival and share breast cancer resources available in the community.
I.S.P.E.A.K is an acronym for Inspired Speakers in Pink Encouraging Action for Komen. I.S.P.E.A.K Representatives are breast cancer survivors, co-survivors and those who have lost someone to breast cancer. I.S.P.E.A.K Representatives are volunteers who support our mission and are passionate about sharing their story and journey of survivorship, hope and in some cases, loss. Representatives are asked to share their story of survivorship, co-survivorship and loss, address small groups and large audiences, and connect their personal experiences with our organization and our mission. Representatives attend many different types of events and speaking engagements including check handovers, guest speaker panels, breast cancer awareness month outreach activities, community health fairs and 3rd party fundraising events. Speakers disseminate Komen breast health information to audiences they present to, and help promote our signature events – Race for the Cure and the Pink Tie Ball.
Susan G. Komen Orange County Speakers Bureau volunteers are community breast health educators. Our speakers are given training in public speaking, breast health topics, and about our organization. Our trained Bureau representatives conduct breast health presentations in the community. Speakers may be breast cancer survivors, co-survivors (friend/family member of someone that has been impacted by breast cancer), or a health advocate that has not been personally impacted but is passionate about fighting breast cancer.
Information about requesting an I.S.P.E.A.K or Speakers Bureau Representative:
We get many requests for speakers, health fairs, and educational materials; unfortunately, we cannot fill all of these requests. We ask that you place your request as far in advance as possible as this increases the chance of volunteer availability for your event.
- Requests must be received at least four weeks prior to event date.
- We make every effort to meet all requests but a representative is not guaranteed upon all requests.
- Donations are always appreciated to help offset the costs of the materials for these programs.
- It is not our policy to participate in events that charge a fee for non-profit participation.
Please note: until you submit the official request form and receive confirmation from our Volunteer Coordinator – your event will not be added to our volunteer opportunities calendar.
